Briefing: Hurricane Relief

Charlotte Cunliffe of the United Way for the Greater New Orleans Community Data Center will be in Washington next Thursday to meet with the Urban Institute about rebuilding efforts in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. She also will be meeting with NTIA concerning her TOP grant. While she's in town Charlotte has offered to brief NTIA on hurricane disaster relief.

The United Way received a grant from NTIA to create a mapping project that inventoried the physical and social assets of New Orleans neighborhoods. The database created by the project was instrumental in recent search, rescue and relief efforts. Ms. Cunliffe and her project have been featured by CNN Live, Newsweek, and the New York Times. She has been consulting with several organizations sharing information on the New Orleans experience and the value of asset mapping in community planning, management and rebuilding.

Given NTIA's interest in relief efforts as well as its ongoing interest in the application of telecommunications and information technology in American life, OTIA would like to invite you to hear Charlotte's report.

Bring your coffee/coke/water etc. and NTIA will supply the cookies.
