The debate over policy approaches to cybersecurity standards in the public sector have tended to get bogged down in the merits of entirely public vs. private approaches.

This event explores a set of emerging policy tools with distinctly partnered public-private profiles: cyber safety standards in the automotive industry, cyber-insurance, consumer notification, and software vendor liability. Each of these ideas presents opportunities and challenges for policymakers, requiring us to look at the tradeoffs they embody. The panel will also discuss the state of affairs for making each of these tools an effective and reliable instrument of public policy.
