DORGAN: TIGHTEN CROSS-OWNERSHIP BAN
Although Commerce Secretary Carlos Gutierrez has written Senate Commerce Committee Chairman Daniel Inouye (D-Hawaii) defending the Federal Communications Commission's new media ownership rules, Sen Byron Dorgan has vowed to push forward a resolution to overturn the new regulations. Secretary Gutierrez said he would advise President Bush to veto the resolution if it got to his desk. “The president will have to do what he wants to do,” Sen Dorgan said. “He generally stands up for the big economic interests. But I'm not very interested in their threats, I'm interested in legislating good policy here, so I'm going to proceed.” The Senate Commerce Committee will hold a hearing on the resolution on April 24.
