Apple doesn't innovate, it sues, says Google’s Schmidt

Google chairman Eric Schmidt publicly criticized Apple for its patent lawsuits against HTC, Samsung and Motorola. The lawsuits are generally seen as an Apple attack against rival smartphone platform Android, which now leads the smartphone market.

Schmidt said that Apple’s lawsuits claiming patent infringement are spurred by jealousy and anxiety over the growth of Google’s Android platform. “The big news in the past year has been the explosion of Google Android handsets and this means our competitors are responding," Schmidt said. “Because they are not responding with innovation, they're responding with lawsuits. We have not done anything wrong and these lawsuits are just inspired by our success.” Schmidt also said that Google will support HTC in its fight.
