A forecast by investment bank Barclays Capital predicts cable and satellite TV operators will pick up an additional 1.7 million customers because of the digital television transition. Barclays estimates that cable will pick up two-thirds of the 1.7 million new subscribers, or around 1 million, with the rest going to satellite TV. About 17 million households currently rely on over-the-air TV.
