Smart Roads, Smart Cars: How IT is Transforming Transportation
Information Technology and Innovation Foundation
Thursday, May 14, 2009
12:30 PM - 2:00 PM
Congressional Meeting Room - South, Capitol Visitor Center, Washington, D.C.
Until now most advances in transportation relied on physical materials—more cement and steel. But now, progress in surface transportation will depend increasingly on making the system more intelligent, through the use of sensors, computers and communication technology. In short, IT can play a key role in the safety, efficiency and convenience of transportation, including for cars, trucks and mass transit.
Join ITIF President Rob Atkinson for an engaging discussion of the findings from ITIF's recent report Digital Quality of Life: Transportation that explores the impact of IT on transportation. In addition, ITIF will be joined by a panel of experts to discuss policies Congress and the Administration can consider to drive the use of IT to enhance mobility, increase transportation safety and make a positive impact on the environment.
