MARTIN PREPARING TO REVISIT FIGHT OVER CARRIAGE OF DIGITAL TV SIGNALS
[SOURCE: Technology Daily, AUTHOR: David Hatch ]
FCC Chairman Kevin Martin intends to pursue his plan to require cable carriage of the multiple signals to be offered by digital television broadcasters, despite opposition from powerful lawmakers. The FCC chief is known as a consensus builder who has deftly avoided nasty entanglements with Congress. In this dust-up, he faces what could be the toughest test yet of his political mettle. "An item on must-carry is currently on circulation among the commissioners on the eighth floor," an FCC source confirmed. This source said the item likely will be on the agenda for the FCC's June 21 meeting, along with a another controversial proposal to modify restrictions on media ownership.
