Former Benton Foundation Board Member Dr. Harold Richman Passes

Harold Richman bridged the worlds of academia and public policy as a professor at the University of Chicago and as founding director of an influential child welfare research center. The dean of the U of C's School of Social Service Administration from 1969 to 1978, Dr. Richman, 72, died of cancer Thursday, July 30, at his home in Chicago's Hyde Park neighborhood. Soft-spoken but with a ready ear, Dr. Richman understood relationships and bureaucracies, partly from lessons learned while on government assignments in Springfield and Washington.
