Because the Federal Communications Commission has called for "maximum civic engagement" in developing and implementing a national broadband plan, Google and the New America Foundation decided to join together to launch online a Google Moderator page. This project is intended to provide the public with an online forum to submit and vote on various ideas to be included as part of the National Broadband Plan. The overarching goal was to help aggregate public opinion on this policy matter of critical national importance. After just two weeks, some 2,234 people submitted 592 ideas and cast 46,979 votes, reflecting input from many different stakeholders. In the coming weeks Google plans to provide pertinent analysis regarding these results.
