ABC SPORTS BROADCASTS TO CARRY ESPN BRANDING
[SOURCE: Reuters]
Walt Disney's ESPN network said on Thursday that its sister ABC Sports broadcasts will air from ESPN-branded sets starting in September, part of the entertainment giant's effort to win market share by luring consumers with its best-known brands. ABC Sports broadcasts will continue to carry an ABC network "watermark" in the screen's bottom right corner, but programming logos, such as those for "Saturday Night Football" or "Major League Soccer," statistics packages, scoreboards and microphone flags will carry ESPN's name and logo, Disney said. The network will identify the programming as "ESPN on ABC" during graphics packages that lead into and out of commercials, and on program guides and on-air promotions of game times. Disney owns both the ESPN sports and ABC television networks. The new program goes into effect on September 2 with the start of the college football season.
