United States' Mobile and Fixed Broadband Internet Speeds Quarter 3 2022

A market analysis, based on Q3 2022 mobile data, which examined several categories, including upload speeds, multi-server latency, consistency, video score, 5G video score, 5G performance, 5G availability, and 5G consistency. See the following for the rankings of each mobile provider in each category:

• Upload Speeds: T-Mobile had the fastest median upload speed among top mobile operators in the U.S. at 10.91 Mbps during Q3 2022. Verizon Wireless was second and AT&T finished third.
• Multi-Server Latency: Calculating median multi-server latency for the three top mobile operators in the U.S. during Q3 2022, Verizon Wireless had the lowest multi-server latency at 59 ms. T-Mobile was a close second at 60 ms. AT&T was third at 61 ms.
• Consistency: In measuring the consistency of each operator’s performance, we found that T-Mobile had the highest Consistency in the U.S. during Q3 2022, with 84.4% of results showing at least 5 Mbps download and 1 Mbps upload speeds. Verizon Wireless and AT&T followed at 79.6% and 79.4%, respectively.
• Video Score: In measuring the Video Score of each mobile operator’s video performance, we found that T-Mobile had the highest Video Score in the U.S. at 76.81 during Q3 2022. Verizon Wireless was second and AT&T third.
• 5G Video Score: Looking at the 5G Video Score of each operator’s video performance over a 5G connection, we found no statistical winner in the U.S. during Q3 2022. T-Mobile and Verizon Wireless had the highest scores at 81.50 and 81.30, respectively. AT&T followed at 73.48.
• 5G Performance: Looking only at tests taken on a 5G connection, T-Mobile had the fastest median 5G download speed in the U.S. at 193.06 Mbps during Q3 2022, a slight increase over Q2 2022.
• 5G Availability: During Q3 2022, T-Mobile had the best 5G Availability in the U.S. at 69.2%. AT&T was second at 59.8% and Verizon Wireless was third at 32.0%. Note that some providers require a separate rate plan in order for a 5G-capable device to connect to 5G.
• 5G Consistency: In measuring the consistency of each operator’s performance over a 5G connection in the U.S. during Q3 2022, there was no statistical winner for 5G Consistency. Verizon Wireless and T-Mobile led for 5G Consistency at 75.6% and 75.3%, respectively, and AT&T trailed at 69.6%

Overall, Speedtest Intelligence reveals T-Mobile was the fastest mobile operator in the United States during Q3 2022 with a median download speed of 116.14 Mbps on modern chipsets. Verizon Wireless and AT&T were distant runners up.
