[SOURCE: Broadcasting&Cable, AUTHOR: John Eggerton]
Participating in a Cable, Telecom & Media briefing, part of the UBS Analyst Access Global Conference Call series, FCC Chairman Kevin Martin said: 1) he hopes to wrap up an open proceeding on video franchise reform by the end of the year, 2) he expects the wireless spectrum auction currently winding down will raise about $14 billion for the US Treasury, 3) the Commission is aiming to complete the review of the AT&T-BellSouth merger by mid-October, 4) he will try to lift a ban on newspaper/broadcast station cross-ownership and could tackle the issue separately if there is no consensus on an omnibus rewrite of media ownership rules and 5) he sang the praises of a la carte pricing of cable TV.
