NBC CHIEF EXPECTS MORE ADVERTISING WITHIN TV SHOWS

NBC Universal Chief Executive Bob Wright on Monday predicted more advertising will occur within television shows in the coming years -- through sponsorship or product placement -- as ad-skipping devices become more popular. "The skipping issue is going to have a lot of different dimensions," said Wright, speaking at an Advertising Week event in New York. One outcome, he said, would be that "advertisements will move more into the program." Wright said another outcome is the increasing importance of event programming, such as this year's winter Olympics, which ran on NBC. "I couldn't be happier with what he have," Wright said, referring to NBC's Olympics coverage. "This is one of those scarcity issues. In a world with more options, premium properties really stand out." Wright also pointed to NBC's Sunday Night Football, which premiered this year. "Having football as a cornerstone on Sunday night takes pressure off our scheduling," he said.
