GE Healthcare and Intel Corp. announced plans on Aug. 2 to form a new healthcare company that will specialize in services and products that help patients manage their chronic diseases and live independently.
The two companies did not disclose financial terms of the agreement, but the as-yet-unnamed venture will be based in Sacramento, Calif., and owned equally by GE and Intel. The new venture is part of an alliance formed by the two companies in April 2009 to create and market telehealth and home-based monitoring technologies for older adults and people who have chronic conditions, according to a news release. Intel will contribute its assistive and remote health management technologies, while GE Healthcare will contribute QuietCare, a remote monitoring system.
