The New America Foundation released a report which finds that Americans pay more for mobile services than subscribers in other countries.

The report compares cell phone payments in 11 countries and finds that "consumers in other countries are paying much less for fixed-price voice, text, and data services in comparison to U.S. and Canada." The research pinned the findings on the structure of subscription plans, which force customers to pay for services they do not use. Overcharge fees are higher in the US than abroad, adding to the problem of "bill shock," the surprise consumers feel when their bills are higher than expected.
