In late July 2010, a number of Members of the House wrote to Federal Communications Commission Chairman Julius Genachowski urging the FCC to reexamine its rules governing retransmission consent and act to protect consumers. They asked for a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking to protect consumer access to broadcast programming.
In late September, Chairman Genachowski wrote back to Congress noting the Petition/or Rulemaking that was filed with the FCC by a coalition of multichannel video programming distributors and public interest groups seeking to reform the retransmission consent rules. The FCC's Media Bureau is currently developing recommendations for FCC action on the matter.
