Libraries work to meet digital demand

Later this year, the Glen Ellyn Public Library reference and instructional librarian has plans to put together what he is calling a tech petting zoo. "As part of our budget, we hope to have an example of each of the eReaders that are out there for people to come and check out," said Spirito, who heads the library's downloadable media classes. A few of the devices he hopes to display include the Apple iPod Touch, Barnes & Noble's Nook and the Kobo from Borders. And the idea couldn't come at a better time as patrons are increasingly visiting the library for help with their eReaders, one of last year's biggest holiday gifts. The upsurge in interest in eBooks has library officials re-examining their policies regarding downloadable books, and working to keep up with the demand for information about the newest publishing phenomenon.
