President Barack Obama defended significant investments in research and development, expanding wireless broadband, and improving science and math education during remarks on his Administration's budget proposal at a Baltimore middle school.
Despite a budget that includes significant cuts to many programs dear to the president's heart, including block grants for community development, President Obama said it is crucial not to make cuts that could adversely affect the nation's future ability to compete economically. The White House's budget calls for $148 billion for research and development along with the permanent extension of the R&D tax credit, which is strongly supported by the tech sector. President Obama also vowed to maintain his administration's investments in science and math education.
