The Department of Health and Human Service's Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology has released two sets of specifications and a draft compatibility statement on its Direct Project, a software development effort to facilitate the basic, provider-to-provider communications needed to meet meaningful-use criteria under the federal health IT incentive payment program. The ONC also announced that more than 60 healthcare and health IT organizations, including state and private-sector health information exchanges, have committed to using Direct Project standards in their operations.
