MTV Networks should use the resignation of CEO Judy McGrath as an opportunity to stop marketing sex, drug use and violence to teenagers, according to the Parents Television Council.
The parents watchdog group issued a statement after Viacom announced McGrath would be stepping down and will not be replaced. As leader of MTV Networks McGrath oversaw channels including MTV, Nickelodeon and Comedy Central that have spawned recent hits like "Jersey Shore." “In recent years, MTV has been the corporate epitome of Jekyll and Hyde,” said PTC President Tim Winter. "On one hand, the network glamorizes teen sexual behavior, drug and alcohol abuse, and even statutory rape. Yet on the other hand, it advocates for the prevention of teen pregnancy and the eradication of substance and sexual abuse."
