This first-of-its-kind report by Bob Litan, noted Kauffman Foundation and Brookings Institution scholar, is a breakthrough examination of the economic benefits to the nation that can be derived from accelerated broadband deployment to older Americans and people with disabilities. Broadband can deliver unparalleled opportunities in health care, employment, and independent living for these important and growing sub-groups of the U.S. population. Litan’s work estimates the tremendous cost savings and output expansion resulting from the use of broadband technologies for services such as telemedicine and telework. The report’s unique findings will be of major importance to the Administration and Congress, older Americans, people with disabilities, economists, financial analysts, and other interested parties. Litan will present his groundbreaking findings at the luncheon and discuss how these potential benefits make accelerating broadband deployment a national priority.
