California state regulators moved to launch an investigation of AT&T's proposed $39 billion acquisition of T-Mobile USA, opening another front in the battle over the controversial deal.
AT&T has notified five states that it is seeking to acquire T-Mobile USA and asking that those states not oppose or investigate the deal.
In three of those states, California, West Virginia and Louisiana, Sprint has requested that the states open a formal investigation. Louisiana's public utility commissioners have signaled they would like to investigate the deal. California's size gives the state more clout, however.
