BARRINGTON FORGES DUOP IN TRAVERSE CITY, MI
[SOURCE: tvnewsday, AUTHOR: Harry A. Jessell]
Barrington Broadcasting is putting together an ABC-NBC virtual duopoly in Traverse City-Cadillac (MI). Max Media will sell the market's twin ABC affiliates -- WGTQ/WGTU -- to Tucker Broadcasting for $10 million. Barrington expects to guarantee a loan that Tucker is obtaining to buy the stations. The Pilot Group, one of Barrington’s financial backers, also anticipates loaning money to Tucker. Barrington will sell time and provide news and other programming for the Tucker stations. Barrington already owns the twin NBC affiliates in the market, WPBN/WTOM. Barrington also has an option to buy Tucker or its stations.
