BROADCASTERS CONDEMN EU PLAN TO SHARE WITH PHONES
[SOURCE: Reuters, AUTHOR: Jonathan Lynn]
European broadcasters condemned on Wednesday a proposal by the European Commission to open radio frequencies to mobile phone operators and said digital television screens could go blank as a result. The warning from the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) added to criticism by Germany and the French telecoms regulator of wide-ranging proposals from the EU executive on Tuesday to shake up the European telecoms market. The EU proposals aim to boost competition in broadband and wireless services by giving national regulators powers to split dominant operators.
