Apparently, House Commerce Committee Chairman Joe Barton (R-TX)is giving up his quest for a subcommittee vote this week on draft telecommunications legislation, after committee Republicans and Democrats balked at his quick time-frame. Chairman Barton had hoped for a subcommittee markup next week to create momentum for a full committee vote in March and a House floor vote at some point in the spring of 2006. There no appears to be consensus to continue to discuss the legislation at least through February. (More on what a new draft of the legislation may look like at the URL below.)
