VONAGE SUES NEBRASKA PCS FOR FEE ON INTERNET CALLS
[SOURCE: Associated Press]
Internet-calling company Vonage is suing to try to prevent Nebraska from forcing its customers to pay a state telephone fee. In a lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court, Vonage says the Nebraska Public Service Commission and its officials should not force it to pay into the state's Universal Service Fund. That fund helps subsidize phone and Internet services to poor and rural areas, schools and libraries. Vonage cites federal court rulings in recent years that said Minnesota cannot subject Vonage to state telephone regulations and fees.
