TRIBUNE CEO URGES ACTION, IDEAS
[SOURCE: Orlando Sentinel 2/1, AUTHOR: Christopher Boyd cboyd@orlandosentinel.com]
Sam Zell, who became chairman and chief executive officer of Tribune Co. little more than a month ago, visited the Orlando Sentinel on Thursday with a message that newspapers must confront massive changes in the media with fresh ideas and bold action. Zell, speaking under a huge tent pitched in the Sentinel parking lot, told employees that he wanted to build a entrepreneurial corporate culture that rewards those who contribute ideas that build wealth. Zell had little to say about journalism, but he said the company's newspapers, which also include the Los Angeles Times, Chicago Tribune, Newsday on Long Island in New York, and the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, should focus on what readers want.
