FCC RELEASES NEW TELEPHONE SUBSCRIBERSHIP REPORT

And you thought nothing exciting happens in January... The Federal Communications Commission released its latest report on telephone subscribership levels in the United States. The report presents subscribership statistics based on the Current Population Survey (CPS) conducted by the Census Bureau in July 2006. The report also shows subscribership levels by state, income level, race, age, household size, and employment status. highlights of the stats from July 2006: 1) The telephone subscribership penetration rate in the U.S. was 94.6%, an increase of 0.6% over the rate from July 2005. 2) The telephone penetration rate for households with incomes below $20,000 was below 93%, while the rate for households with incomes over $100,000 was over 98%. 3) Among the states, the penetration rates ranged from a low of 88.4% in Indiana to a high of 97.8% in New Hampshire. 3) The penetration rate for unemployed adults was 91.4%, while the rate for employed adults was 95.8%.
