[Commentary] Iraq, David Vitter, Larry Craig, Alberto Gonzales... Why can't news organizations resolve disputes on what the truth is? Are they afraid to take a stand? Or is there no realistic way to do what the critics demand without becoming partisans? The media's passive regurgitation of administration spin during the run-up to the war underscores the weakness of simply quoting dueling spokesmen. But aggressive reporting doesn't mean convicting people or taking sides in wartime, however much that might please the partisans.
