FCC Commissioner Carr Raises Possibility of ‘Incentive Auction 2.0’
At its annual meeting, the Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC) announced a number of new developments, including a new branding campaign, mission statement and updates on its efforts to expand adoption of the ATSC 3.0 (aka NextGen TV) internationally as well as the campaign to sunset 1.0. But it was perhaps a comment from Federal Communications Commissioner Brendon Carr in a discussion with ATSC President Madeleine Noland that garnered the most attention.
NAB Opposes Forest Service Proposal to Add Comms Fee for Rural Coverage
The National Association of Broadcasters told the Federal Communications Commission that the industry opposes a proposal from the Forest Service to assess an annual programmatic fee on communication uses to cover the Forest Service’s costs of administering its communications use program. “NAB believes the Forest Service’s current proposal is unlawful, inequitable, and undermines the public interest.
Senators Urge President Biden to Make Rosenworcel Permanent FCC Chair
A group of over two dozen senators is urging President Joe Biden to designate Acting Federal Communications Commission Chairwoman Chairman Jessica Rosenworcel to a permanent position, making her the first woman to hold the office. The chairmanship of the commission has been in limbo since President Biden was sworn into office on Jan. 20, 2021, with Chairwoman Rosenworcel operating in acting capacity.
