November 17, 2006 The Benton Foundation congratulates Chairman Martin on his confirmation as chairman of the Federal Communications Commission. As a member of the Commission's Consumer Advisory Committee, the foundation has great respect for Chairman Martin's leadership. A number of issues before the Commission are crucial to the public interest including preserving the nation's long commitment to competition, diversity and localism through media ownership rules, defining the public service obligations of broadcasters, and defining universal service for the needs of the 21st century. The Benton Foundation looks forward to continuing our work with the Chairman and his fellow commissioners through the CAC and other avenues to define "in the public interest" in the Digital Age.
