Benton Institute for Broadband & Society Applauds Biden Administrations and States on Critical Step toward Internet for All
Earlier today, President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris announced that the Department of Commerce’s National Telecommunications and Information Administration has allocated funding to all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and five territories to deploy affordable, reliable high-speed Internet service to everyone in America. The following statement may be attributed to Benton Institute Executive Director Adrianne B. Furniss:
"The Benton Institute welcomes and celebrates today's historic investment in universal broadband. And we salute and thank the NTIA's leadership and staff along with state broadband offices who are all working tirelessly to ensure that everyone is connected to the infrastructure of opportunity: fast, reliable, affordable broadband. Today's announcement is another critical step towards a more connected, more equitable America. We look forward to helping states achieve the goal of universal connectivity by 2030 through resources like the Accelerate Community Broadband Planning Program, Pathways to Digital Equity, and Visions of Digital Equity."
The Benton Institute for Broadband & Society is a non-profit organization dedicated to ensuring that all people in the U.S. have access to competitive, High-Performance Broadband regardless of where they live or who they are. We believe communication policy - rooted in the values of access, equity, and diversity - has the power to deliver new opportunities and strengthen communities.
