Sixth Circuit Stays Net Neutrality Rules

Earlier today the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit stayed the Federal Communications Commission's recently adopted Open Internet Rule. The following may be attributed to Benton Senior Counselor Andrew Jay Schwartzman:

Today’s preliminary order is disappointing, but this case is far from over. We remain hopeful that full briefing will demonstrate that the FCC acted lawfully to restore oversight over broadband, and that these new rules will promote competition and free speech and protect public safety. The American public deserves to have access to everything the internet has to offer.

The Benton Institute for Broadband & Society is a non-profit organization dedicated to ensuring that all people in the U.S. have access to competitive, High-Performance Broadband regardless of where they live or who they are. We believe communication policy - rooted in the values of access, equity, and diversity - has the power to deliver new opportunities and strengthen communities.
