Broadband in Low-Income and Marginalized Communities
People in low-income and marginalized communities -- regardless of where they live in the U.S. -- are disproportionately unlikely to have an internet connection at home. Without a home connection, they are unable to work and learn remotely, use telemedicine, access government benefits, and more. Please join Senator Schumer, Whip Clyburn, and the Lifeline Coalition for a Congressional briefing on the problems low-income and marginalized communities face when trying to connect, and the multi-pronged approach Congress should take to address these issues during the pandemic and beyond.
Agenda:
- Overview: Why low-income and marginalized communities struggle to connect
- Remarks from Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Majority Whip Jim Clyburn
- Breakout Sessions: During these sessions Lifeline coalition members will moderate small group discussions about the issues constituents in your district are facing and how Congress can solve them. Breakout sessions focus on:
- - Ensuring broadband is affordable
- - Ensuring access to devices and digital literacy skills
- - Ensuring equitable access to high quality broadband
- - Ensuring that broadband policy solutions are inclusive for all communities
