Congressional Briefing on Net Neutrality Oral Arguments
On February 1, 2019, the Federal Communications Commission went to court to attempt to defend its 2017 decision to gut the agency's net neutrality consumer protections and eliminate all FCC oversight of internet service providers (ISPs).
Last year, a bipartisan majority of the U.S. Senate voted to overturn the FCC's decision to jettison the agency's net neutrality rules and more than 180 members of the House of Representatives co-sponsored a Congressional Review Act resolution and signed a discharge petition to follow suit.
A day before the House Commerce Committee convenes its first hearing of the 116th Congress on preserving an open internet, hear from several of the parties challenging the FCC's rollback of net neutrality about the issues raised at oral argument, what policymakers should expect from the DC Circuit, and what impact a decision out of the court will have on potential congressional action.
