Consumer Protection in an Age of Uncertainty

Center on Finance, Law, and Policy

Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy

University of Michigan

Thursday, March 21, 2019 - 1:30pm to Friday, March 22, 2019 - 8:30pm
Keynote Speakers:
Rich Cordray, founding director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau
Rohit Chopra, Commissioner, Federal Trade Commission

The conference will explore the status of consumer financial protection as it affects American borrowers, investors, small business owners and those planning for retirement. Rich Cordray, founding director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and Rohit Chopra, commissioner at the Federal Trade Commission, will serve as keynote speakers. The other two dozen speakers will include researchers, policymakers, rule-enforcers -- and a lot of boat rockers, with disproportionate numbers of speakers who have testified before Congress, organized coalitions, litigated class actions, and created new entities to protect consumers.

If you have ever applied for a mortgage, refinanced a student loan, or used an app to pay bills, this conference will cover something that directly affects you. If you have ever wondered what the relationship is between the Department of Education and the CFPB or the FTC, this conference will intrigue you. If you have ever wondered why you have to show up in person to close a bank account from another state -- or had your identity stolen -- this conference will fire you up.
