Public Forum: Action Items for Implementing the Federal Data Strategy

Data Coalition and the White House Office of Management and Budget

Monday, July 8, 2019 - 2:00pm to 10:00pm

A joint public forum on the Federal Data Strategy’s draft 2019-2020 Action Plan. The forum will provide an opportunity for the business, academic, and non-profit communities to offer feedback on the 16 draft action items in the Federal Data Strategy. Implementation of the strategy will be undertaken over the next year.

The draft actions include broad priorities around data resources and tools, research access to data, developing data inventories, improving resources for artificial intelligence research, and setting standards for certain types of data. The actions also include directions for every agency to develop data governance structures, strategies for strengthening skills, and to begin the process of developing learning agendas and identifying priority datasets.

During the forum, registered speakers are invited to provide feedback on the draft action items, the prioritization and timelines for the actions, and other actions that should be considered. Speakers may be asked questions directly by the federal staff developing the final action plan.

Members of the public are invited to participate as either a speaker or as an attendee only. Note that speakers must register in advance to participate during the event, no later than June 28, 2019. At registration, each speaker is required to indicate that they are "speaking and attending" and provide a short description of the action item(s) to be addressed. Each speaker will be allocated a short amount of time to speak during the forum with federal government staff developing the data strategy.
