What Facebook Exposure Mean for Latinx
Platforms like Facebook continue to prioritize profits over public safety, and these harmful practices show a complete disregard of the risks posed to Latinx, Natives, Blacks, Asians, LGBTQ+ and other vulnerable communities.
Since the testimony and interviews of Facebook Whistleblower Frances Haugen took place, the National Hispanic Media Coalition (NHMC) has hosted part one of a panel series featuring a deep dive into what the public learned from this testimony. Panelists of this vital discussion included members of advocacy groups: Free Press, Global Project Against Hate, Anti-Defamation League, Equis Labs, and UnidosUS.
Part two, which will livestream on Monday, October 25th, will feature Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) members and call for platform accountability, consumer protection, and address disinformation in the Latinx community.
Hosting the panel is NHMC President and CEO Brenda Victoria Castillo.
Panel members include:
- U.S. Representative Tony Cárdenas (D-CA-29)
- U.S. Representative Lori Trahan (D-MA-3)
- U.S. Representative Darren Soto (D-FL-9)
