Bipartisan Members Urge House Leaders to Promote Competition in Telecommunications Supply Chains

Coverage Type:

Reps Doris Matsui (D-CA), Brett Guthrie (R-KY), Anna Eshoo (D-CA), and Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA), along with 34 colleagues, sent a letter to House leadership, urging them to provide funding to support the development and deployment of open and interoperable radio access networks (RANs). RANs serve as the connection between phones or hotspots and a carrier’s core network and the internet. As mobile traffic continues to evolve – continued innovation is a necessity. Open RAN technology will allow additional trusted manufacturers to enter the market and compete while enabling more flexible, efficient, secure, and resilient mobile communication.

The letter builds on the progress of the Utilizing Strategic Allied (USA) Telecommunications Act of 2020, introduced by Commerce Committee Chairman Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ), Congressman Brett Guthrie (R-KY), Rep Doris Matsui (D-CA) and Ranking Member Greg Walden (R-OR) which would promote and accelerate the deployment of these 5G networks.
