Commissioner Carr Statement on New Staff Appointment
FCC Commissioner Brendan Carr announced that Evan Swarztrauber has joined his office as Policy Advisor for media issues. Evan joins Commissioner Carr’s office from TechFreedom, where he was Director of Public Affairs. In that role, Evan worked on a wide range of issues, including media ownership, video competition, and the broadcast incentive auction. He also managed the organization’s communications and outreach teams, and represented the organization in a diverse array of coalitions. Additionally, he cofounded and hosted the Tech Policy Podcast since its launch in January 2016, and has written articles and conducted interviews on a variety of tech policy matters. Prior to his work at TechFreedom, Evan served as a communications staffer in the New York State Assembly, and he worked on a variety of political campaigns in New York City. Evan received his undergraduate degree from George Washington University.
Commissioner Carr also announced that Kevin Holmes, who has been serving as Acting Legal Advisor for wireless, public safety, and international issues, will be rejoining the Office of Legislative Affairs. Nirali Patel, who has been serving as Acting Legal Advisor for media, consumer protection, and enforcement issues, will remain detailed from the Wireline Competition Bureau on an interim basis. During that time, Patel will be advising Commissioner Carr on wireless, public safety, and international issues in addition to consumer protection and enforcement matters.
