[Commentary] While America once held the place of the most wired country in the world, its Internet connection has dropped behind in the broadband race. And the numbers show that not only is America's connection slower, it's costlier. Who is to blame for this communication dilemma? In the early 1990's Verizon and other phone companies were given $200 billion to lay out fiber-optic wire. The fiber-optic wire would have improved service. However, over 10 years later, the average speed in the U.S. continued to lag behind the rest of the world.
