[SOURCE: Electronic Privacy Information Center]
EPIC filed a complaint with the Federal Communications Commission urging the agency to investigate claims that telephone companies shared private customer data with the National Security Agency as part of a domestic surveillance or data mining program. Telecommunications carriers are required by law to keep customer records confidential. "If telecommunication carriers disclosed customer information to the NSA in the manner described in press reports, then violations of section 222 of the Communications Act have occurred," the letter said.
