Ethics Committee allows lawmakers to link from campaign to congressional sites
March 13, 2012
The House Ethics Committee informed lawmakers that they can include a link from their campaign website to their official congressional site. The reverse is still banned; lawmakers cannot link to their campaign site from their government site. The rule clarification also applies to campaign social media tools, such as Twitter, Facebook and YouTube.
Lawmakers are required to include the following disclosure if they link to their congressional website:
"Thank you for visiting my campaign (website/Twitter page/Facebook page). If your intention was to visit my official House of Representatives (website/Twitter page/Facebook page), please click here."
