FCC Chairman Martin and FCC Commissioners respond to Committee letter of January 31, 2007, regarding the Subcommittee on Telecommunications and the Internet Hearing on oversight of the FCC scheduled for February 15, 2007. The letter asks about and the Commissioners provide answers on NSA wiretapping, the AT&T-BellSouth merger decision, broadband deployment, spectrum policy, the digital television transition, and Commission processes. Commissioners Copps and Adelstein again called for the Commission to define the public interest obligations (PIOs) of digital television broadcasters. The FCC first asked about for public comment on PIOs 12 years ago.
