FCC chairman: Balance is key

FCC CHAIRMAN: BALANCE IS KEY

As chairman of the Federal Communications Commission, Kevin Martin said he works to find a happy medium between government regulation and free competition in the media marketplace. "A robust competitive marketplace is the best regulator and protector of public interest," he said in a speech at the University of North Carolina's new Center for Media Law and Policy. "But that doesn't mean that government doesn't have an important role to play. It sets up a regulatory environment that promotes investment and competition."
