Hispanic lawmakers call for SNL to drop Trump as guest host

Members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus are criticizing SNL and NBC over its choice to use Donald Trump as a guest host, arguing the network is turning a blind eye to Trump’s inflammatory comments about Hispanic immigrants.

“Racist, misogynist, homophobic, anti-Semitic and other nativist, majoritarian humor has a long history. It is used to attack those who are ‘different,’ to paint them as ‘inferior.’ It is kindling for fires of hatred. If no one has the courage or awareness to say, ‘Stop!’ early enough, the fire can spread. SNL, by inviting Trump to host, fans those flames of hatred,” Rep Tony Cárdenas (D-CA) wrote in an op-ed. Using the hashtag #DumpTrumpOnSNL, Hispanic lawmakers are seeking to broaden support for their campaign on Twitter.
