Kevin Martin, former Chairman of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and leading expert in telecommunications and technology policy, has joined the board of directors at AirWalk Communications, a maker of small cell base stations.

AirWalk announced the appointment of Martin to the position, noting that his presence on the board is part of a new expansion stage by the company. AirWalk is known for compact macrocell, picocell, and femtocell networks. Martin served as Chairman for the FCC from March 2005 to January 2009, where he created a regulatory environment that led to exponential growth in technological innovation, and wireless infrastructure and coverage for Americans. While with the FCC, he conducted the two most successful auctions of spectrum, dramatically increased broadband investment and competition by removing prohibitive legacy regulations, and led the FCC initiative of preparing consumers for the nationwide transition from analog to digital broadcasting.
