Legislation to lift fees paid when people use company cell phones passed a cloture vote on Sept 14 as part of the Small Business Jobs Act. The legislation was introduced two years ago to prevent cell phones from being taxed as a corporate perk by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). Current rules require employers to keep track of cell-phone calls by their staff. Sens. John Kerry (D-MA) and John Ensign (R-NV) sponsored the legislation. The Senate could vote on passage of the small business bill as soon as Sept 16.
