NTIA Releases Spectrum Policy Plan
[SOURCE: National Telecommunications and Information Administration]
In response to the President’s Spectrum Policy Memorandum, the Department of Commerce (Department) organized the Federal Government Spectrum Task Force, an interagency advisory group of federal agencies that use spectrum. The Department also sought the views of the private sector and of state, local, and regional governments for improving U.S. spectrum use. In June 2004, the Department submitted two reports to the President that reflect the views obtained. The reports contained far-reaching recommendations on a wide range of issues. On November 30, 2004, the President issued a second Memorandum that directed inter alia, the Department to submit by May 2005 a plan to implement those recommendations of the reports that were not expressly directed to other agencies and offices. In this plan, the Department’s National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) outlines seven projects that together implement the recommendations of Reports 1 and 2 as directed by the President. The projects are summarized at the URL below.
