President Obama’s announcement of Osama bin Laden’s death was watched by 56.5 million people in the United States. The nine-minute address appeared to be the most watched presidential speech in nearly a decade. Even though the announcement came at 11:35 p.m., well after many people might go to bed, it drew more viewers than every other address Mr. Obama has given as president. The speech was carried on nine TV networks from 11:35 p.m. to 11:44 p.m. Eastern time and watched by 57% of U.S. households with their TVs on in those nine minutes
